1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1
The Ford Mustang was introduced in 1964 as a sporty "pony car" to attract younger buyers in Ford products. After only a few years of development, Ford saw the need to create performance Mustangs to compete with GM and Chevrolet's release Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. Although the results of several options existed in the form of the plant 289 (the '65s on) and FE engine factory (new for 1967 with the S-engine's code), most of the results of Ford Mustang mantle was carried by the car modified by the legendary Carroll Shelby. 1969 was the year of reference for the Ford Mustang in its proliferation of performance names and engines. At least 6 factory performance Mustang models were available (Boss 302, 429, Shelby GT350, GT500 and the Mach 1). In addition, variations of 9 V-8 was available in '69-'70 cars.
The new Mustang chassis, the latest models 1st generation allows more powerful engines than previous generations and would fit even the monstrous 429 provided for the approval of Ford engine competition for NASCAR. For Ford, the Mach 1 was introduced as a model in the middle, an adjustment between the cheaper GT-oriented 302s and 429s track Boss. The Mach 1 started with the fastback "Sports Roof body and added several visual and performance improvement items such as matte black hood with hood pins, chrome gas cap and tires, chrome exhaust tips (except 351W 2V), and optional chin and rear spoilers distributor cover, and blinds. The standard engine was a 351W 2V Windsor with a 3 speed manual transmission, and one 9 "28 spline open rear axle. A 351W 4V was optional as was a 390 4V, and the huge 428 Cobra Jet 4V or package drag "option, the 428 Super Cobra Jet 4V. A 4-speed manual or 3 speed FMX (small block) / C6 (big block) automatic transmission is optional, and added a tailshaft 428SCJ iron instead of regular aluminum one on the C6. A traction lok "rear axle is optional, and the 428 CJ / SCJ included a traction lok "with a 3.91 or 4.30 ratio, 31 spline axle shafts and a nodular case. In 1970, the proportion was 3.91" traction-lok, while 4:30 ratio was a Detroit locker. Mach 1s comes with upgraded suspension to varying degrees depending on power options. Big cars block had front reinforcement shock tower, thicker stabilizer bars (no rear bar 69), and heavier springs and dampers. 428 CJ / SCJ 4 speed car also came with staggered rear shocks. Rules on Mach 1s was a spoonful of the fierce but cosmetic hood had been integrated flashing lights mounted on the back. A more functional option was the signature "Shaker hood, an air intake mounted directly to the top of the engine, to collect the fresh air and named for its tendency to "shake" above the din V-8 below. The interior is finished with teak wood grain details, soundproofing material full sound and high back bucket seats bucket. The Mach 1 name could not have been more appropriate than in 1969, European Consumer performance to a new Tested at Mach 1 Bonneville, breaking some 295 USAC speed and endurance records. Ford Mach 1 remains alive in 1970 and little changed outside the visual. New Mach 1 specific seats, Magnum 500 wheels, recessed taillights on a black honeycomb rear panel, as well as new equipment and subsequent badging and striping were the main differences visual. Selling more than the base GT model, Ford canceled the GT together to make the Mach 1, the main street performance Mustang.
production changes
1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1
With the withdrawal of the Trans-Am Ford officially after 1970, high-end Boss 302 and 429 disappeared and were replaced by the great street oriented 351 Boss. The 1971 Mustang was higher in almost all dimensions, earning the nickname the "Clydesdale." In a show of defiance by Ford designers long on what he felt was far too influenced GM style brought to our new-71 Mustang recently acquired by former GM designer Larry Shinoda and Ford's new president (and ex-man GM) Bunkie Knudsen, the designers of the old school Ford made sure that setting the nomenclature 'Ford' does not seem stylistically visible anywhere either on the outside or the inside of the new design. His statement is intended to show that this was indeed "is not really a" product Ford to the core. "Began in 1971 Mach 1 with a base engine of the base 302ci Windsor engine with a 2 barrel carburetor. The engine lineup of the four engines of 351 Cleveland: The 2-V, V-4, the CJ (Cobra Jet) and HO (BOSS 351). The HO was canceled after mid-1971, and shortly after the low-compression 351 Cobra Jet 'was available. The poster 429ci topped with two options, the CJ (Cobra Jet) and SCJ (Super Cobra Jet). Mach 1 s, as well as all other Mustang models (except BOSS 351) were optionally available with the CJ and SCJ engines. The SCJ came with a tow package code V or W rear gear, oil cooler and different swivel mount. 429 Super Cobra Jet Holley carburetor engine uses a 4-barrel, while the Cobra Jet engine made do with an original GM Rochester Quadra-Jet four-barrel carburetor. The Mustang Mach January 1971 appeared in the James Bond film, Diamonds Are Forever (1971). In this film, the Mach 1 was the first vehicle ever filmed featuring the now famous 'Two-wheel angle' trick (driven by the driver trick 'Willert Strikes "in Davenport, Iowa) as Bond escapes police chase Las Vegas. One of the stunt car used in the James Bond would be used later as Jan Michael Vincent's car in the Charles Bronson film "The Mechanic '. Unfortunately for the Mach 1 in his only appearance in the film, the car was demolished by a bomb planted inside.
In 1972, the 429s were removed from the lineup, and the power dropped across the board. The following year also produced the least amount of sales Mach 1 1971-1973 generation. No major differences in 1971 and 72 Mustangs outside, except for different scripts on the trunk panel. The only difference externally in the '72 Mach 1 was the deletion of the gas cap 71-pop-only open in the Mach 1 Mustang twisted standard gas cap for '72 Mach 1s. Apparently, the gas caps were open pop- prone to spilling fuel in a rear impact, so Ford abandoned in all areas. The 302 is still the base engine with 2 barrel or 4 barrel 351 Clevelands are the only options in the line of Mach 1.
1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1
In 1973, the front end was changed to fit new bumper standards, and a new grille Mach 1 was performed. The Mach 1 grill in previous years had two "sportlamps" horizontally across the grid on the left side and right, whereas functional parking lights rode down below the front bumper at the outer ends of the valance panel. In 1973, all Mustang models sportlamps had changed to a vertical orientation at each end of the grill and the lights was also double duty as parking lights. This was necessary because the new-for-73 front bumper was larger and blocked the view underneath the bumper, the previous location of the parking lights. The rear bumper also was mounted on the new extensions to absorb shock that caused the bumper body protruding about an inch more than before. The Mach 1 graphics were also updated to a simple, yet bolder design, which was necessitated by the change in the front bumper. Engine options remained the same in 1972. One of the most recognizable and popular features of the '71-'73 block-off plates on the successes, so it was a visual element non-functional. However, they can be fully functional on models ordered with the 'ram air' option. This included vacuum controlled "flappers" in each spoonful, under the fiberglass hood and a huge 'right' that directed cool outside air into the carburetor for increased performance. The option ram air hood treatment included two-tone paint format 'matte black "or" silver "(matt silver), coordinated with the color of the Mach 1 decals and stripes. In addition, all ram air equipped Mustangs of this generation was equipped with stylish twist-plated hood lock pins.
Due to the popularity of ram-air option, but because of the trouble reserving the option to ram-approved air emissions reasons, Ford offered a "foreign decoration option 'In 1973 which consisted in the treatment of two-tone paint and the hood pins, but without the actual functional components of the RAM air "system. The only engine option functional ram "air" was available in 1973 was 351 2-V, although the 351 4-V 'Cobra Jet' was optional in all models.

The Mach 1 was the performance package, equipped with the 2.8 L V6 engine with 105 hp classified (78 kW). In 1974 sales exceeded Mach 1s the last four years with the V6 in the light for its size 2700 lbs (1,200 kg) II. The next year the 302 was returned to the Mustang, giving a performance boost and much needed. A 140 hp (100 kW) and 240 lbfft (325 Nm) of torque, the MII was available with a 4-speed manual. Formed at the top of the IIS performance Mustang. With 1976 came the introduction of further action "model", the Cobra II. In 1977, little changed, but the Mustang Grille and 1977 proved to be the lowest year of sale of the Mach 1, however, the sale of only 6719 cars. It is also worth noting that four of five years of the Mustang II are in the top-ten list of best-selling Mustang ever. Nothing has changed for 1978 other than Ford adding another model for action to the lineup, the King Cobra. This became the last year for the Mustang II as well as their role models. The name of Mach 1 was discontinued.

During the 1990s, the outstanding performance SVT Mustang Cobra was. Following the departure of the Fox chassis in 1993 and the arrival of the SN-95 in 1994, Ford also tried to eliminate 302. (Now marketed as 5.0 liters, 302 CID but is closer to 4.9 L) On the basis of their new OHC engines known as modular architecture, SVT created around 1996 and up Cobra some variations of the valve 32, all-aluminum 4.6-liter (281 CID) V-8. Under the SVT performance was only the GT, reintroduced in 1982 HO 302 "5.0", which leads to the 16alve SOHC V-8 in 1996. Although still well behind GM in the acceleration of competition (The base engine Camaro Z-28 1993 to make 275 horsepower (205 kW) and increased to 305 hp (227 kW) in 1998) sales in the style of the new SN-95 cars increased, so that by the year 2002, the Mustang sales exceeded the combined sales figure of the Firebird and Camaro. With the withdrawal of GM of war "Pony Car" in 2002, Ford had a free hand throughout the market but nonetheless created what was possibly the fastest Mustang securities until that moment in time with the SVT Cobra 2003-2004. However, the concern about a price difference between the GT and Cobra, as well as interest in maintain sales, even before the launch of the all-new Mustang S197 2005 led to the creation of two unique models mid-range performance: In 2001, half Bullitt GT and 2003 Mach 1 and 2004 both credited to Team Mustang driven by Scott Hoag.
After the stir caused by the retro 2001 "Bullitt" (A 2001 GT slightly amended, named after the famous chase Mustang driven by Steve McQueen in the movie "Bullitt") Ford saw the value of heritage in the name of Mustang and further, tried to revive the name of Mach 1. Bullitt similar to the use of the Cobra 13 in (330 mm) Brembo front brakes, single Tokico gas shocks and struts, and lower springs and stiffer, the Mach 1 received a huge performance boost over the base GT and up to 265 hp (198 kW) Bullitt in the form of a unique variant the 4.6-liter DOHC V8 32alve Modular. Commonly known by Mach 1 owners as a "code of R DOHC" (for the single-engine VIN code I) this engine aluminum has the same high flow heads as the SVT Cobra 20032004, 20032004 Mercury Marauder, Lincoln Aviator 20032005, 20032009 and the Australian V8 Boss 5.4 L (see Ford Australia's Boss 5.4 L) engine also has camshafts intake of 5.4 liters of origin Lincoln "InTech" to provide more torque V8 midrange engine. The Mach 1 engine had a 10.1:1 compression ratio in contrast to the 1999 and 2001 9.85:1 Cobra, and Mach 1 was equipped with an aluminum plant in Windsor or WAP single block of aluminum blocks used in the Teksid 19961999 Cobras. The Mach 1 also displayed a relatively high redline of 6,800 rpm (5-speed cars) and fuel cut at 7050 rpm or 5800 rpm (4-speed automatic). Although on paper the 305 hp (228 kW) ratings seem a loss compared to 1999 SVT Cobra and 2001 that produced 320 horsepower (239 kW), in practice, the Mach 1 engine produces peak power substantially similar and more torque.
Other differences Ford include the use of 8.8-inch (220 mm) solid rear axle with a ratio of 3.55 final (Frente Independiente SVT rear suspension) also available a 4-speed automatic transmission, plus the 5-speed manual Tremec home. Steel mill "Box" cross-section subframe connectors were also added to increase the strength of both the chassis for added handling and dealing with the prodigious torque on the stock GT. Style wise, the Mach 1 was as distinct from other Mustangs drew heavily from the Mach 1 1970. In addition to the matte black spoiler spoiler and hood stripe, flat black chin, Mach 1 rocker panel stripes and Mach 1 badging on the back, there were also false Magnum 500 17×8 alloy wheels. A retro interior theme and included with dark stout leather seats gray style 70 "Comfort Weave" texture, a group of style and size 1970 aluminum shift ball machining. A 18G optional upgrade package includes Stainless steel interior pedals, a headrest 4-Way, finish aluminum shift boot ring seat and door poles lock and aluminum bezels look on the board. The most noticeable difference visually from other Mustangs hood was full of cuts and the return of a semi-legitimate "Shaker Hood". While physically identical in the placement and function (the spoon which is said to be built in the tool itself that the 1970 Mach 1) provides only a portion of routing air to the engine to the air box in front of MAF. That is how a cold air "snorkel" and a partial Ram Air at high speed.
2004 saw only minor changes to surface of the Mach 1. 2004 Mach 1s can be identified by over bare aluminum valve covers, unlike the mid-2003 with black finish covers. Out of 2004 Mach 1 carry labels 40th anniversary in front of the doors, while the 2003 has the traditional Mustang Running Pony and Tri bar. The internal change was the elimination alone the overload of "cargo net" mounted on the ceiling. Despite rumors of pre-production, power and torque did not increase in 2004. Rated power was 305 hp (227 kW) and 320 lbft (434 Nm).
Unlike many cars of 2003 limited edition Mach 1 owners had a variety of highlight colors to choose from. Originally the cars were offered in Black, Dark Shadow Grey Metallic, Torch Red, Zinc Yellow, White, Oxford and the Mach 1 only Azure Blue. In 2004 was removed from zinc yellow as an option and is replaced with a more vibrant yellow called Screaming Yellow, and a new color called all Competition Orange.
With this improvement power and a relatively light weight 3380 lbs Brake (1,533 kg), the 2003 Mustang Mach 1 New issue of test were impressive given its price tag of $ 29,305. proof of the Motor Trend magazine to find the numbers of 13.88 seconds at 101.9 mph (164.0 km / h) for the automatic-equipped 2003 Mach 1 with a 5.6 seconds 0-60 mph, up five blistering speed of 13.2 seconds at 106.7 mph (171.7 kph), with a time of 4.7 seconds 0-60 mph. All this while maintaining a decent 63.5 mph (102.2 km / h) in a slalom of 600 feet (180 m) and 0.85 g on the skidpad, but the high center of gravity of the largest DOHC engine has created a tendency to understeer more than the IRS equipped TSV and lower CG and lower curb weight Bullitt GT with the same basic suspension and brakes.
Limited production, 2003 and 2004 Mach 1s ended with New Edge platform body, disruption of the monocoque framed Fox, and the introduction of new frame design for the first time since 1979, with 9652 s-197 2003 7182 and 2004 is being built, against the principle of Mach 1 is advertised as a limited run model year with production set 6,500 cars. Ford plans to again call for a midrange model between the Mustang GT and Shelby GT500 (Shelby has already established with a GT-H for Hertz rental as the legendary GT-350 as well as a buyable version), but is unlikely to be another Mach 1, rumors are that either the head or the name Bullitt will be used again.
